A day before the super typhoon Yolanda, me and my colleagues were looking for the memo ordering public and private sectors to suspend work on Nov. 7 and 8 because the announcement on the official social media accounts of the provincial government and the mayor were not enough for our bosses.

In my workplace we were simply told that we need to be in the office and work because it's a US-based company. For me, it's the worst decision and stupid. The company is headquartered here in the Philippines but operations are in the way of the typhoon.

We were informed as well that we need to stay in the office to bring our things like clothes and toiletries coz were going to sleep there with free meals and extra bonus just to ensure attendance in the middle of the typhoon leaving our family back home scared of the black out, no water and the harsh winds of the typhoon. I asked myself what they think that we value free lunches and bonuses over our lives and the lives of our families. The truth is many of us can't complain for heavy penalties of an absence, we might be kick off from our job. Call centers are very lenient with attendance.

The Call center industry may be a huge help in the generation of  income here in the Philippines. But, they are becoming abusive that they pushed limit when they peeled employees away from their families and had risk our lives for the sake of income generation when in fact, calls can be rerouted to other sites.

For me they are the most cruel persons I've ever met. I was in the office working on Novemebr 7 the day before the typhoon and I was not able to go home on the  the day the Super typhoon hits us  we were force to sleep in the office so that we can still work  on that day and we were provided extra bonuses and free meals but our bosses just don't know how we suffered psychologically that we can't concentrate thinking how's our family back home can't even call them no signal, telecommunication down, no water and power down, to think I'm a single mom leaving my 8 yr old daughter and nanny at home who is not a relative but a complete stranger. I am not overreacting what if worst comes to worst if something happen on that day good that the eye of the typhoon doesn't hit us but still it's signal no. 4. I can'y forgive myself if somethimg might happen good thing we are all safe but the worst experience that I have to face.
